Building Your First Basic First-Aid

Basic first aid skills are crucial to any emergency survival situation. There are two things you will need to be prepared; a First Aid Kit, and First Aid/CPR training.

First you should contact your local American Red Cross Chapter, Community College, Hospital, or Scouting Organization and ask about CPR & First Aid Training. Having first-hand training is essential to your survival skills.

Second, you need to prepare a first aid kit, complete with a first aid guide. We recommend a complete and extensive first aid/medical manual, and a quick first aid reference guide for emergencies.

First Aid Kit

What supplies you add to your kit will be determined by you individual needs. If you are preparing a small survival kit to carry on your belt, then you may only have room for some bandages, antiseptic, and gauzes (doubles as a fire starter). While the typical family first aid kit will have everything needed for most emergencies, if you’re planning for long term survival isolated from civilization then you will need equipment for basic surgery/dental, complete with medical manuals.
