1. Cover all of your home’s windows.

By covering your windows with permanent storm shutters, it will protect your windows from breaking.  Install laminated glass with impact-resistant glazing.  You could use Wood boards as well.

2. Water

3. Food

Store a 3 day supply of non – perishable foods.  Canned foods or foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking, with the need of little of water or none.

4. Communication

5.  Food Preservation

Turning your refrigerator to the coldest setting will keep your food preserved in case of a power outage.  Keep the doors closed.

6. Tree Cutting

Trim Trees and Bushes before any hurricanes hit the area, and which are close to your house.  These tree limbs can become projectiles, breaking your windows due to high winds. The could also damage your house roof.

7. Loose Items

Make a list of the items around your home or property are loose and could fly away and become projectiles themselves which could harm anyone or break your window.  In order to avoid, you shouldMake sure you tie down your patio furniture, garbage cans, plants , pool filters, mailboxes and tv antennas.  You  will need to tie them down or put them somewhere inside away from the hurricane storm.

8. Download the Emergency App

Download an emergency app on android or apple, which has to do with the  the American Red Cross.

 

8. Axe and Life Preservers

Make sure you keep an axe or life preservers in the higher section of your house.  So if the water rises, and to avoid any drowning, you will be able to grab a hold of an axe or a life preserver to get out safe.
